The Coachella Valley is known for exceptional hiking trails. With the resort cities of Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, La Quinta, Indian Wells and Cathedral City, there's an abundance of cactus-lined trails. Not to mention Joshua Tree National Park offers a number of short walks, nature trails or backcountry hiking.

There's more than 100 trails to choose from, ranging from easy to extreme, with acres of untouched wilderness fitting for every level of hiker. Many of the trails overlook the vast desert mountains and are adorned with wildflowers, numerous species of cactus and lush palm trees.

One of the most popular hikes in Palm Desert is The Cross Trail, this being favorable for all skill levels. It's almost a 3 mile hike round trip and takes about an hour to finish. At the top of the trail is a cross that illuminates the desert sky and has been in existence since 1981.

Perhaps the biggest attraction is Joshua Tree National Park. With its distinguished boulders, unusual cacti and rocky mountains, there are plenty of reasons to hike this bizarre desert landscape. It's arguably one of most beautiful and unique places to hike in California. Offering epic sunsets and rare desert landscapes, it's sure not to disappoint.
